The German Spirit of Christmas

The spirit of Christmas time is closer and closer as December comes. When we think of Christmas holidays and the special preparations, our thought is linked with Christmas markets across Europe. Decorations, card writing, Santa Claus are all part of the wonderful winter celebration. Germany is one of the most highly appreciated country for its Christmas markets. The Christkindlmarkt is the typical market where there are hundreds of stalls crowded in the square and along the Kaufingerstrasse. The best items at such a market are sweets, very appreciated by both children and adults. Either you choose ornaments for the Christmas tree or sausage and Glühwein don’t leave Christkindlmarkt without to admire the great Christmas tree in front of the Neues Rathaus.

In Munich there are also many other Christmas markets at close distances, for instance, the Kripperlmarkt, where visitors can buy extraordinary figurinesbelonging to this period of the year. Englischer Garten is the largest park in the town. Don’t miss Pfeffernüsse, the traditional German Christmas cookie. The Christmas spirit feels like home in Munich and this is not an exaggeration. Nürnberg is another town famous for Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber, one of the largest Christmas markets in Germany, situated in the Hauptmarkt, surrounded by Schöner Brunnen (Beautiful Fountain). Painted nutcrackers are very beautiful souvenirs one can buy from here. There is a typical dish in this town, called Nürnberger, that is little sausages. You can taste them at Bratwurstglöcklein, a very nice restaurant, Handwerkerhof near the Frauentor. Christmas markets in Germany are usually open from morning till the evening, at about 8 P.M.
