Every year the Rio Carnival takes before the eyes of the visitors all around the world – a unique show, which brings together an impressive number of tourists. For this competition, participants train all year long, from movement to music, costumes and performance. For this occasion, the samba stadium was built, known as Sambodromo. Passarela do Samba, or Sambodromo, as it is also known as, is in the central part of the town. It was specially built for the traditional samba shows and became famous worldwide.Because it is a huge construction, it is better to look on a map first, in order to reach your places marked on the ticket.
The fun begins actually a few weeks before the carnival grand opening. Then, all the samba schools have the opportunity to make all the necessary rehearsals. The dancing shows take place on Terreirao do Samba. Terreirao do Samba was conceived for the shows, music and dance of the samba schools, which unfold during all year long. Visitors can find here little shops where they can buy food and cold drinks from. The public can also find more information about the Rio Carnival then. The most waited moment is Rio Samba Parade. A unique event in the world, and the peak moment of the carnival, Rio Samba Parade is the competition between the different samba schools.
The winner becomes the Carnival Champion. There is also a ‘street carnival‘, where everyone can take part to, without to pay any ticket fee. Rio inhabitants and tourists gather and participate together with the orchestras and dancers. There are also other events where you can take part, such as the balls organised with the carnival occasion. These usually take place in hotels or clubs. Some of them require dress code (carnival outfit). The ones who want to buy a carnival costume, have to be ready to spend 1000 euro for one.
Balls are a good solution for those who cannot go to Sambodromo, because there take place performances of the samba schools. Prices are varied. For example, only for the entrance fee, you have to pay $40-$60, and four a 4 persons table, starting from $140. There are also offers available for the carnival. If you collaborate with a tourism agency, for instance, you can pay from 700 – 2600 euro per person, excluding the ticket on Sambodromo.
