Mexico Plane Hijacked on Wednesday

A passenger plane belonging to AeroMexico was hijacked on Wednesday and flown to Mexico City. All the 104 passengers and the crew are safe, they got off the plane together with the crew and five suspects were arrested after. The AeroMexico flight was seized after taking off from the Caribbean resort of Cancun. Local media said the hijackers had threatened to blow the plane up unless they were allowed to speak to President Felipe Calderon. At least five handcuffed men were brought off the Boeing 737 plane on the tarmac at Mexico City international airport by police, shortly after around 100 passengers and the crew descended safely from the aircraft, local television images showed.

Juan Molinar, the Transport Minister, declared for the Mexico’s Televisa channel that “The passengers are safe, there was no bomb”. Adriana Romero, one of the passengers, told the Mexican television she had not realized the flight had been hijacked until the plane landed at Mexico City.  “We realized it was a hijacking when we saw the police trucks”. Moreover, some stated that they noticed the hijackers holding a package that resembled an explosive device. After landing off in Mexico City, everyone got off the plane calmly, carrying their hand luggage, when security forces boarded the plane for investigations.
