Magnitude 7 Earthquake Shakes New Papua Guinea

U.S. Geological Survey has announced today that a serious earthquake shook Papua New Guinea on August,5th. The earthquake struck near the island province of New Britain 352 miles (566 kilometres) northeast of the national capital Port Moresby. Papua New Guinea is a region where these kind of phenomena take place quite often because it lies on the “Ring of Fire”, that is where about 90% of the earthquakes in the world take place, as there are volcanic zones. According to the press release, there were no damages recorded, nor any risk of future tsunami.
