Coromandel Peninsula

Post written by Kate Robinson.
One of the nicest places I visited during my recent holiday in New Zealand was the Coromandel Peninsula. It is located 34 miles east of Auckland and it is where you will find some of the best beaches on North Island. I would recommend going to the Coromandel Peninsula if you would like to explore the Moehau Ranges and meet the famous Hairy Moehau monster who is said to live there. Keep an eye out and you may see it. The region is famous for its subtropical rainforest and nearby islands which can also be visited. The Coromandel Peninsula was an area of volcanic activity in the past and so geothermal attractions are very popular in the region. If you want to relax I would highly recommend a trip to the hot springs on Hot Water Beach, which is located on the east coast of the peninsula. This is the place to go for ecotourism, adventure sports and the chance to get away from the city. I loved it because it is very different and it gave me the opportunity to see the country’s real natural beauties.

If you are wondering how to get there, the answer is that there are no direct airline tickets to the Coromandel Peninsula as it is a small area which is inhabited by few people. It does not have an airport and so for this reason most international flights to North Island arrive at Auckland International Airport. You will then have to take a bus to get to the Coromandel Peninsula. The good thing about taking a bus is that you can see the scenery along the way. There are daily buses to and from the area. New Zealand is the perfect destination for backpacking and exploring. Here are some of the companies which I would recommend you look for flights to Auckland with: Air New Zealand and Thai Airlines.
