A Budget Trip to Vienna

Vienna is considered among the most expensive European capitals and not only – Austria is on the 13th place among the most expensive countries in the world. Therefore, a budget trip is always welcome. First of all, you should carefully book your flight in advance at very good rates. Flights to Vienna are now very affordable. As soon as you have landed in Vienna, you can take the Schnell Bahn (S-Bahn), which is the local train and is much cheapier than the CAT green train. You will pay only 4 EUR/way. If you want to take the U-Bahn or Metro from the city centre, then you have to stop at Wien Mitte, the central station, where all transfer trains stop. A good tip for your budget is to buy food from the local supermarkets – there are very many chains in Vienna – Billa, Spar, Merkur. However, please note that they are usually open from Monday to Saturday from about 9 A.M. to 18 or maybe 19. But, if you need something to buy from a supermarket on Sunday, don’t worry, you have two central possibilities to do this – at West Bahnhof the Merkur supermarket is open everyday from 5 A.M. to 23 and Billa at Praterstern Station is open from 6 A.M. to 21.
Also, if you drink a lot of water, take care to buy it from these stores, as it might be very expensive if you buy it from the Schonbrunn Palace, for instance. If you are in Vienna for a weekend, then it is very good if you buy the Vienna Card – it includes transportation for bus, tram, U Bahn and S Bahn for 72 hours from the moment you validate the tickets. Also, you get important discounts from museums and other attractions. If you would like to enjoy a cup of coffee, then avoid the central cafes and restaurants. As a tip, you can have a grand cup of coffee at Mc Donald’s, it is very tasty and strong!
Accommodation must be booked several months in advance in order to get the best rates. If you are on a tight budget, another tip is to save money by not buying too many souvenirs from the museums neighbourhood. You will find very nice items at local stores, and not in the city centre. Vienna is worth seeing all year round, but summer is the best time to enjoy the local atmosphere, a pleasant walk in the evening along the commercial streets or in some of the most famous parks.

A Budget Trip to Venice

Venice is indeed the lovers’ town! A very romantic destination, which I believe is worth visiting even 100 times! The international flights to Venice are a very good occasion to visit this beautiful town and fall in love, if not already. The airline tickets to Venice are worth buying because the rates will make your trip a budget one. As soon as you arrive on the Treviso Airport or Marco Polo Airport, take the bus shuttle for about 30-40 minutes ride, and then arrive at the Mestre Railway Station. You can accommodate at better rates in Mestre, but if you want to complete the romantic picture, you can choose as well a Venetian hotel, but take into consideration the fact that you will need a boat ride from the hotel entrance and the rates might be higher than in the neighbourhood from Venice.

Right in front of the Railway Station you can see the bus station which takes you directly to Piazzale Roma – the place where all the buses in Venice gather and also where the Line 1 Vaporreto departures. If you are in Venice for 48 hours or more, it is good to buy 48 hours passes – in exchange for 30 EUR/ person, with which you have unlimited trips by bus or vaporreto on the island or to the islands around – Burano, Murano, Lido.
Shopping is another local custom – if you want to get souvenirs in exchange for very good rates, go to Rialto Bridge – there are many small shops, where you can even negotiate your price. If you are hungry, don’t worry, although restaurants charge a higher amount for their services and food, you can try a pub for a drink or a street corner bar, where you can take something away or serve it there (the rates might be higher). A slice of Margherita pizza is about 1,5 EUR – 2 EUR, depending on where you buy it from, to 2,50 EUR – 3,00 EUR for a slice of Diavola Pizza. They have a unique taste and smell.

Gelato or the Italian ice-cream is also a must. It is very creamy, tasty and delicious! Absolutely one of the best ice-creams I’ve ever tried! One is about EUR 1,50.
If you want a healthy lunch or evening, and you are on a tight budget, Venice helps you with the Billa or Coop supermarkets. They are open until about 8 P.M. and you cand find there very good salads, fruits and other snacks for your trip. You will save a lot of money this way, for instance, you pay about 2,50 EUR – 3 EUR for a salad – in the supermarket and about 8 EUR in a restaurant.
Don’t forget to “get lost” on the small streets of Venice, along the canals, it is an extraordinary way to explore the beauties of this “water town”.

Must Have Items when Travelling

You know that saying, the journey worth more than the destination itself! That’s why it’s highly important to consider having a very pleasant journey. Travel advisers suggest that you should make up a list with several items you most surely have to take with you on your next trip. One useful belonging for you is a fleece headband where your earphones are built in. You can listen to music without being bothered by the uncomfortable plastic earphones. An adequate bag will save up time during the security procedures because according to the TSA procedures, you place your laptop bag on the conveyor belt and the checking will be easier because the airport authorities will notice that you don’t have anything else but your gadget inside. At the destination and not only, is good to have a rest. This is ensured by a watch with sleep tracker built in. You can call it a “wise-watch” because it tracks your sleep and will wake you up only when you are about to wake up, you know, that moment when sleep is almost ready.
