Buddha’s Birthday 2011

This year, in 2011, Buddha’s Birthday will be on May, 10th. The celebration will take place in Seoul, the place where many rituals will gather about 500,000 tourists and locals. Buddha’s birthday, who was born approximately 2,555 years ago, is calculated evey year as following: Just calculate the first full moon day of the sixth month of the Buddhist lunar calendar, which would be the fourth month of the Chinese calendar, except in years in which there’s an extra full moon, and then Buddha’s birthday falls in the seventh month. A very much awaited festival is the three day lotus lantern festival, a brightly coloured festivity. In 2011, Lotus Lantern Festival is being held from May 6th-8th. The festival is highlighted by the stunning Lantern Parade, which is set to take place on May 7th from 7pm to 9.30pm. Moreover, on the occasion of Buddha’s Birthday, a  street festival is taking place outside Jogyesa Temple from noon to 7pm, with over 100 booths to explore.
